Breast Reduction

Enlarged breasts causing women a multitude of physical problems is common. Removing the excess weight and lifting the breast substance ameliorates most, if not all, of the problems that heavy breasts create. Relief of back and shoulder strain, increased mobility to freely move about and exercise, reduction of skin rashes caused by excess moisture on the undersides of the breasts, and enabling women to purchase clothing that fits easier are typical testimonies heard following breast reduction.

In general any woman desiring smaller breasts for cosmetic or symptomatic reasons is a candidate for a breast reduction. During the operation a considerable amount of the breast tissue will be removed substantially lessening the strain that this excess weight creates for the musculoskeletal system. Because a great volume of skin must be tailored out to contain a smaller volume of breast tissue, extensive scarring is necessary. The “anchor” scar described in the Breast Lift section is the most common scar rendered during this operation.

The disability period varies. Some patients can return to work in 2 weeks. Others might take several more weeks.

Breast reductions are commonly covered by individual insurance programs. However, Dr. Okamoto only provides this service on a non-insurance basis.
