Browlift/Forehead Lift

Whereas the facelift addresses the lower 2/3 of the face, a forehead lift focuses more on the upper 1/3. Similar to other parts of the face and neck, the forehead often shows signs of sag. Women often complain extra skin in their upper lids making it difficult for them to apply make-up without smudging. They are often surprised that a drooping forehead is frequently responsible for part or all of their upper lid problems. Of course, men will also develop forehead aging problems, but due to male hairline considerations as well as social acceptance of lower brows for men, forehead lifts are less frequently performed.

Multiple goals are established for forehead lifts in women. The horizontal lines running across the forehead and the vertical lines descending between the eyebrows are improved and sometimes eliminated. The lateral one-third of the eyebrows is lifted above the orbital rims in an effort to enhance a slowly-rising feminine arched appearance. The frown muscles, a frequent target for BOTOX® injections on other occasions, are detached and partially excised to soften the facial demeanor and eliminate the angry look that few women want. All of these maneuvers restore a natural, more youthful appearance to the upper third of the face.

Since the cosmetic goals differ in men, forehead lifts are more conservative. Also, unlike the vectors used to form an arched brow in women, the male forehead lift raises the eyebrow more evenly from side to side. Although this is an operation that is considerably less frequent in men vs. women, the results are equally gratifying in the properly selected candidates.
