Should I Combine Eyelid Surgery and Browlift?

The areas around the eyes and the brow/forehead region are intricately connected, often working together to form a range of expressions. As such, these two areas may begin to display signs of age and stress at roughly the same time. By combining an eyelid surgery procedure (blepharoplasty) with a browlift, individuals can achieve a more comprehensive rejuvenation for the upper face and attain a more youthful, refreshed aesthetic. With that in mind, it is not always necessary to combine these two procedures in order to meet one’s unique needs and goals.

For many people, the first signs of age begin to appear prominently in the upper third of the face. A “drooping brow” can cause both cosmetic and functional concerns, exacerbating problems with excess skin on the upper eyelids and ultimately making them more noticeable. With a combination browlift-eyelid surgery procedure, our board-certified plastic surgeon can effectively address these issues simultaneously and give the entire upper region of the face a smoother, younger, and more rested look.

For some patients, this combination of procedures can be the most beneficial for their needs. For others, only one or the other procedure may be necessary to achieve their goals. Dr. Eric Okamoto will meet with you for an in-depth consultation and discuss your options with you in detail. Once he has examined you and answered your questions, he can determine the best way forward and create a customized treatment plan designed to meet your expectations with beautiful, natural-looking results.

Individuals who are considering upper facial rejuvenation but would like to avoid surgical procedures to accomplish their aesthetic goals may be candidates for cosmetic injectables. A treatment such as BOTOX® Cosmetic or Dysport® can be effective for smoothing away crow’s feet, furrows between the brows, or fine lines running from one side of the forehead to the other. While these treatments can be effective for upper facial enhancement, it is important to note that the results are temporary. Also, these options are not capable of improving certain types of aesthetic concerns in the upper facial areas that may be better addressed with eyelid surgery or a browlift. Dr. Okamoto can explore all of your options with you during the consultation and make a recommendation.
